Belém section, land of Navigators

Belém section

Anne and family came to visit the Portuguese capital to start the new year.
This morning was dedicated to the monumental quarter of Belem, the place of departure of the Portuguese caravels in search of other places.
Recalling the sea voyages, two of Belem monuments are world-heritage: Jeronimos Monastery and Belem Tower, both built in séc.16.
By visiting this Lisbon neighborhood, it is inevitable to stop in the most famous pastry shop, in the Portuguese capital and taste a deliciouspastel de Belém”
This establishment, founded in 1837, is decorated with tile panels,
depicting Belem in the 17th century. On the way to the Coach Museum, which presents the most comprehensive collection of carriages in the world, we pass by the presidential palace, owned by the royal family until 1910.
After a stop at the Tower of Belem, a fortress representative of the Manueline style, we took this opportunity to recall the first air crossing of the South Atlantic. From here took off the 2 Portuguese pilots to reach Brazil.
Finally, we made one last stop at the Monument of the Discoveries for this American family to learn more about the epic voyages of the Portuguese.

Happy New Year.
